About the event
In 2019, the world generated 53.6 million metric tons (Mt), and only 17.4% of this was officially documented as properly collected and recycled. The UK is one of the largest producers of e-waste in the world, with 23.9kg of e-waste on average produced per head, according to the Environmental Audit Committee’s report https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5801/cmselect/cmenvaud/220/22010.htm – that’s almost a third of an adult’s average body weight. In just the first six months of 2021 alone the UK produced 148,134.09 tonnes of e-waste, the equivalent weight of 15 Eiffel Towers. Shiv will help us understand what needs doing.
