The Grassroots Kingston Approach

Kingston Hive’s approach to (re)building community resilience in the face of worsening climate impacts (and the resulting, cascading and compounding social, environmental and economic challenges) looks at three interwoven areas of work:
Inner Resilience

- Offers a more authentic way for individuals to connect with the Earth Crisis.
- Emphasises the importance of diverse perspectives and inclusive storytelling.
- Encourages civic participation and co-ownership through exploring individual agency and opportunities.
Social Cohesion

- Community-led activities strengthen crisis preparedness and foster social cohesion.
- A web of relationships forged between communities builds a resilient network of trust, enabling mutual support for difficult times.
- Key initiatives include providing inclusive spaces, building connections and social capital.
Practical Preparedness

- Focuses on co-creating community-led resilience plans using the GLA Resilience Toolkit.
- Part of a UK-wide movement for community planning against future shocks.
- Address climate impacts and strengthen local decision-making.
Our activities range from running Welcome Cafes, Creative Future Imaginings workshops, Emergency Resilience and Planning workshops, Assets and Relationship-Web Green Mapping, building a Doughnut Economics portrait of Kingston, and more.
